| The Cruise
Each cruise begins at the Tiverton Harbor. Departure times are 10am, 1pm, and 3pm, with a 5pm sunset cruise added upon demand. A typical cruise will last from 3-4 hours, depending on how far we have to go to see the whales. Humpback, Fin and Minke Whales are often found within a few miles of Tiverton, but we sometimes need to travel further, depending where the whales are feeding. As you depart Tiverton and enter the Bay of Fundy, you will pass Boars Head Lighthouse, a working lighthouse on the northern tip of Long Island. You can expect to see any or all of the following species of whale: Humpback Whale, Fin Whale, Minke Whale, and the rare North Atlantic Right Whale. The Right Whale was hunted nearly to extinction back in the whaling days and still only has a population of approximately 400 animals. Over half of that population comes to the Bay of Fundy each summer.
Also commonly seen are Atlantic White Sided and White Beaked Dolphins, Harbor Porpoise, Grey and Harbor Seals, Basking Sharks and a wide variety of seabirds. We have also sighted some not so common visitors to the Bay of Fundy in the past. In 1995 and again in 1996, Pirate's Cove Whale Cruises documented the first ever sighting of a Blue Whale in the Bay of Fundy! Other past sightings have included Sperm Whales, Pilot Whales, a Beluga Whale, a small pod of Orcas and Sea Turtles. Each trip is different and you never know what you're going to see. The chance to see these magnificent creatures while in the company of the friendly and knowledgeable crew of Pirate's Cove Whale & Seabird Cruises is an experience that you will always remember.
Sightings are guaranteed, and it is very seldom that we do not see whales. If, for some reason, we cannot find a whale, we will offer you a free pass to join us again at any time.
